Powerhouse of an Oil & Gas company reported repeated over-heating in one of the power generation engines. Initially, they installed an additional radiator to supplement the capacity of the cooling system, but as the problem persisted, the services of Prime Chemicals Corporation were contracted.
The water in the radiator was found to be dark brown in color, indicating the occurrence of corrosion and iron deposition and potentially scale as well.
System flanges were dismantled and confirmed the presence of scale/iron deposition.

Chemicals used:
Chemical cleaning was performed on the cooling circuit using AP360, AP80, and APS in different cleaning steps. High iron and hardness levels during intermediate steps indicated the dissolution of both corrosion and scale depositions within the cooling circuit. The system was tested for a post-cleaning iron level of < 1 mg/l against pre-cleaning (dissolved) iron of > 8 mg/l.
The system was thereafter filled with cooling water with 1% solution of proprietary coolant additive ROCOR NB Liquid to make up a residual nitrite level of 1,000 mg/l.
